Huw Lewis Jones Art Biography

Huw was born and raised in Dolgellau North Wales and completed his “O” and “A” levels in Art and in his final year prepared a foundation course portfolio and visited Liverpool, then the capital of North Wales, regularly. He decided to study medicine in Liverpool, arrived in 1976, and has lived in the South Liverpool ever since.

Painting has always been an important part of Huw's life and he continued to develop his style over 20 years of painting.

During Liverpool's year as the Capital of Culture in 2008 Huw took full advantage of the fantastic opportunities that arose and was inspired by many of the things he saw in Liverpool landscapes and as a result he started to capture images of the city at night.

Aintree Hospital became part of “The Face of Liverpool” art initiative encouraging employees to display their work and as a result Huw exhibited at Aintree Hospital, the University of Liverpool and various gallery's in Liverpool.

In the last 3 years Huw's work has been exhibited regularly at the Corke Gallery and his work is always popular and bought by people who want to enjoy paintings which are very evocative of the Welsh landscape and Huw's evolving style which is inspired by the legendary Welsh painter Sir John Kyffin William.

Huw's painting practice is split into 2 key subjects: the night time city landscapes of Liverpool and the beautiful North Wales landscapes to be found in the mountains in and around Snowdonia National Park, especially around Dolgellau. His paintings represent powerful personal images from his past life and his hope in creating his works is to spark in the viewer some of the emotion and feeling that the landscapes generate for him.
